[Sticks and Strings] ]Hong Kong String Quarter and Li Biao - Interview from Hong Kong Orange News

(2017-12-06)

In May, 2016, a concert named [Sticks and Strings] was held at Hong Kong City Hall. The concert was performed by Hong Kong String Quarter and the famous percussionist Li Biao, playing the pieces wrote by the modern composers such as Rosalo, Guo Wenjing and Piazzolla.

It was the first collaboration between Hong Kong String Quarter and a soloist. The programme includes eastern and western ones, some are passionate, some are silent with sorrow.

“Running in with each player and instruments is very important for playing chamber music.” Mr. Wang Siheng, the founder of Hong kong String Quarter told us. For example, when they had rehearsal, the Hong Kong String Quarter were used to sit on the chair. However when the rhythm became passionate and exciting, they could not sit still any more, they stood up like Li Biao, until the song ended. That’s the clue shows how important the interaction between each other affect the chamber players.

It was interesting that the [Sticks and Strings] concert came up because another concert when the team met Li Biao at the Macau Music Festival, what a predestination because of music.
